The public is more familiar with bad design than good design. It is, in effect, conditioned to prefer bad design, because that is what it lives with. The new becomes threatening, the old reassuring.
The above quote, by one of my favorite graphic designers, is so true! As graphic and multimedia designer, I strive to ensure that I, and the clients that I work for, are part of the solution and not the problem. I want to work every day to make sure the world we see around us looks better. As the quote suggests, we are so used to seeing the same old same, something new can be alarming. My goal as a designer is to walk that fine line. I want to push the boundaries of design, but do so in a way that makes the viewer feel comfortable.
I am Matthew David Nord. Welcome to my site Matthew David Design. I love to design and I love new design challenges. To be given an informational problem and then successfully fix it with sound design principals, gives me a tremendous sense of accomplishment. For the past ten years, I have been working as a signage and wayfinding designer. Every day I am given a new challenge. Whether that is to help visitors navigate new environments, convey information or offer messages of greetings. In my current position, I work directly with sales reps and clients, to create design packages based on their specific needs and industry standards. I also collaborate regularly with our marketing department to create division specific literate, specification documents and other marketing collateral pieces. Everyday is a new adventure, but one that I take on with excitement. My position requires me to work individually but also as a member of team with large, and complicated projects. This has helped to refine my communication skills, along with developing a strong ability to prioritize workloads and multi-task.
